In my never ending search for new and more inflammatory ways to amuse myself. I found something interesting on Google Video…But, I warn you…it’s pretty darn bad. (but if you can take a joke then watch it, it’s freakin’ hilarious) It’s a clip from an episode of Wondershowzen… but I’ll let it speak for itself.

So, I got this assignment in Gov’t Class:

“Write a letter to a Senator in your state about the Bush Adminstration Domestic Wiretapping issue…”

This is what I came up with…

Monday, February 27, 2006
Senator John Cornyn
517 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC 20510

Hon. Senator Cornyn,

The recent news of a unilateral order from within the Bush Administration to spy on hundreds, if not thousands of people, via the NSA scares me. While I understand the need to protect our great nation from foreign threats, I staunchly support civil-liberties. I frankly feel, though I am certainly neither a law expert nor a congressional lawmaker just a concerned citizen, these actions were and are unconstitutional, unacceptable and must not continue.

While I would like to thank the government for keeping my best interests and welfare in mind due to extreme measures taken by extremist factions…I would like to point out the overwhelming power this grants the executive branch, even if only during war-time. This precedent could be used in future cases to amass more and more power for the executive branch, wresting it from the other branches and the very hands of the American People.

Without reform to the current FISA Court such as: re-organization or legal deadline changes or some new form of oversight takes place over these new wiretaps, simply I can not support it. I would like to, once again, stress my understanding of the need for national security, but please, temper your choices with consideration for civil liberties and the Constitution as written by our Founding Fathers.

Remember by whom you were elected. Elected to protect and represent by those people, your people. We are at a great juncture in American history, a time like no other. And while I am assured there are countless other average law abiding American citizens concerned about this issue as well. I, unlike some of the rest, will carry this concern all the way to the ballot box, allowing it to temper my decision as to who is and is not protecting my country; as well as my civil liberties.

Respectfully,
Xian Dee

Yeah, kinda vague, kinda pompous, like politicians… lol

So, I find myself, at times, wondering why we have an electoral college. I’m smart enough to make these choices for myself…but then I realize it’s not me I’m worried about. It’s people like this headline from the Houston Chronicle

KELSO, Wash. (AP) - The note inside the house made it clear to Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies that they had the right place: “Do not open door & let anyone in! Stolen Stuff visable.”

Within a day, investigators confirmed that antiques, furniture, jewelry, credit cards and at least 19 guns found in the home of Gerald Levertt Mack had been stolen from at least 12 people, deputy Charles J. Rosenzweig said.

“Nothing like helping us figure out what’s going on,” Rosenzweig said.

Mack, 40, was arrested early Sunday after a standoff that began the previous evening, when a witness said Mack had entered his home. Deputies returned later Sunday with a search warrant.

Mack was jailed for investigation of first-degree burglary and residential burglary. Bail was set at $30,000.

PETA quietly launches a campaign likening Animals to Jesus…

petapig2.jpgSo, why aren’t the God-fearing Christians around the world
burning down PETA Offices and burning stuff?

baby_front.jpgWhy have products like the Baby Jesus Butt-Plug not sparked international controversy and outrage over someone selling the Christ-Child to ram in your tookus ?? Oh, right. I forgot. They’re not extremists and understand the proper channels for dealing with such adversities; while extremists around the world scream for blood and burn flags of various countries.

Perhaps the rest of the world could learn a nifty lesson from that.

At least, a better lesson then will be learned if the EU decides to create a code of ethics for journalism…a method to keep free speech as we know it gagged with a sock and hog-tied in the closet in the interest world multi-cultural relations.

Frankly, I think that stinks.

As much as I feel the cartoons in question were intentionally inflammatory and flagrantly insensitive…I also feel the response was completely disproportional. However, I do not, will not and cannot stand idly by and wait free speech fall by the wayside. If you cannot speak your mind, what kind of world do we live in? Do we cower in fear with our huddled masses or do we stand up and collectively support the free flow of ideas, knowledge, humor and entertainment?

Everyone is offended by something at some point, just as I know someone somewhere could take offense to my words. But, my honest advice is this: If you don’t like something, don’t look at / read / watch / listen to it. In talking, thinking, writing and speaking of things at which you are offended…you also draw attention you did not want. People who aren’t offended and may even glorify the very thing you find so odious.

As I personally find the “Mohammed cartoons” distasteful, I will not post them or links to them here. But, they’re out there if you really care to look. But, I however, also challenge you to look up other religions for spoofs, cartoons and caricatures…You’ll be surprised at how many you see…and how little has been said about it.

Perhaps the world could take a lesson from that…

Okay, so at first I was totally comfortable with the “Christian Values” widely upheld by a vast majority of the Republican Party. Lately, as I watch our great nation founded on “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” spiralling out of control; I wonder what the future holds. As a “social progressive” and “fiscal conservative”, I typically get labeled a “Libertarian”, which I don’t mind. I usually just say I’m “independent”.

Now, back to my thought.

As I hear more and more about preachers, priests, pastors, ministers and reverends getting involved in the political areana, I fear for my country. While using their pulpits as political grandstand; they (the clergy) spew rhetoric about Iraq, the U.S. Government and mobilize the foot-soldiers of the Christian Right to vote for any candidate they deem worthy. Don’t believe me? Read the news, all three branches of government are packed with “Christian Right Elite”. These are ironically also the people crafting dirty deals with Big Business (especially Big Oil…Thanks G.W. for keeping our environment safe. =-P) and provoking most of the Arab Nations into a state of frenzy. Somehow, I  don’t feel Jesus, or any deity would approve. As a strict secularist and profound believer in the separation of church and state, I can’t help but to hope the general population of the United States of America starts to get it’s act together. Hopefully we will all realize we’re slowly morphing a truly great nation into a facist theocracy doomed for failure and start to make a change…I know I’m voting for a change in the mid-terms…Let’s just hope enough people like me show up to make a difference.
